Bitter leaf has been used by indigenous tribes in Africa for centuries as a way to help manage their blood glucose levels naturally.

It’s thought that they first came across it when animals would eat the plant after other food sources were scarce – only later did they realize its benefits when sick with diabetes.

Indigenous tribes in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique have been using bitter leaves for years thanks to its health benefits.

Bitter leaf is rich in vitamin C which helps people who suffer from diabetic neuropathy – a common side effect that can be painful and leave sufferers disabled.

It also provides necessary electrolytes and traces minerals to help balance out blood sugar levels and prevent further damage.

With all of these benefits, it’s no surprise that bitter leaf has been dubbed as a “wonder drug” with the ability to cure many illnesses.

How to use raw Bitter leaf ​for Diabetes

Some people use bitter leaves as a supplement, while others boil the leaves and drink the liquid.  This method requires boiling water and carefully washing the leaves to remove any chemicals or pesticides that may have been used during cultivation.  

Once clean, you can put the leaves into a pot of boiling water and reduce to a simmer for about 15-20 minutes.  After this, remove the leaves from the water and let them cool down to room temperature before drinking.  This boiling process should be done for about three days in a row to see better results.

You can also make tea or soup with bitter leaves – just remember that you’ll want raw leaves for these types of remedies.  Raw leaves are generally boiled with different types of meats for a tasty soup or stew.  You can also make tea by boiling the leaves in water on the stovetop – it’s recommended that you drink this tea three times a day.

 

Bitter Leaves Supplement 

There are two different kinds of bitter leaf you’ll find when looking for supplements – raw and processed.

The processed version has very little nutritional value and should be avoided as it won’t help you with your health issues.

Instead, look for a raw bitter leaf which is known as “Chlorophora excelsa” or “Tinctoria”.  This variety of plants includes AKBA (Aucubin) which offers many benefits for your health.  Aucubin is also found in coffee beans which gives it its bitter flavor!

For the best results, you’ll want to take between 500mg-1g before or after each meal (2 times a day).  If you’re taking other medication then check with your doctor to make sure there aren’t any negative side effects.  Also, if you’re looking for a supplement then make sure to read the ingredients and avoid products with fillers and artificial chemicals.

Currently, there aren’t any known major side effects associated with a bitter leaf so it’s considered safe for most adults.  That said, always check with your doctor first before starting any new supplement.  

There are many other natural remedies for diabetes that can help you get off of medication and insulin shots so if bitter leaf doesn’t work out then don’t lose hope!  Just keep looking until you find a treatment that works for your needs.
