A lot of people think that face serum is a waste of money because they think their skin can’t absorb it, or that there are no benefits to using one.

While it’s true that some serums aren’t very good and don’t give many benefits, there are also many high-quality serums out there which you definitely should be investing in!

Is face serum necessary?

Yes, Here’s why:

1.) Fine lines and wrinkles:

As we age, our skin gets less elastic and collagen breaks down. The general rule is that the deeper the wrinkle, the more years of your life caused them. So fine lines around your eyes or forehead may have been created recently, while deep crows feet, and jowls were probably a decade in the making.

This is where a high-quality serum with skin repairing and anti-aging ingredients can help you. These serums give your skin the support it needs to repair and maintain healthy collagen levels, so fine lines and wrinkles can look younger and less visible!

While some people may find they break out after using a face serum, this is usually because the serum they’re using contains harsh ingredients, or doesn’t suit their skin type.

To choose a good face serum, make sure it has gentle ingredients like plant extracts and oils, which are nourishing to your skin.

2.) Hydration

Serums are super concentrated with the most beneficial ingredients for your skin type, so they are able to penetrate deep into the skin and moisturize it more effectively than you could ever do with a regular moisturizer.

If your skin is dry, dehydrated, or sensitive, make sure every product you use after cleansing (and before makeup), is full of hydrating ingredients like plant extracts, oils, and active ingredients like hyaluronic acid which can rehydrate your skin.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money on face serum, just make sure it’s packed with hydrating ingredients that suit your skin type!

3.) Sun damage repair

Along with collagen breakdown and dehydration, sun damage is one of the biggest causes of premature aging. It can directly impact your collagen production by destroying the fibroblasts responsible for producing it, causing the breakdown of elastin, which holds skin together and give you wrinkles.

Even if you don’t see visible sun damage like freckles or moles (which are caused by DNA damage), UVB rays can also penetrate your skin and damage the dermis, causing a variety of problems including wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

By using a face serum with ingredients that can protect your skin from UV damage like plant extracts and antioxidants, you can help prevent any future sun-induced aging signs!

My favorite serums:

Hydrossential Serum

This serum is a fantastic option if you want to maintain flawless, wrinkle-free skin. It’s packed with anti-aging antioxidants and plant extracts to repair sun damage, so it will give you the complexion of a twenty-year-old!

Hydrossential consists of many amazing herbal extracts, such as Japanese Witch Hazel, lemon, rosemary, Aloe Barbadensis, Jojoba Oil, Horsetail, Gotu Kola, Camellia Sinensis, scots pine, and more.

Along with my face serum, I also use an organic face oil once or twice a week and it makes my skin so unbelievably soft!

Is serum compulsory in the skincare routine?

Selecting a face serum based on your skin type and concerns is essential if you want to get the best results possible.

If you choose a highly concentrated product with the best active ingredients, it will work amazingly well for your skin type and help you achieve and maintain healthy and dewy skin!

What’s more, serums are great because they can be used in your morning or evening routine. As an AM serum, you’ll wake up with healthy and glowing skin that’s ready to take on the day!

As a PM serum, it works brilliantly after cleansing before moisturizing. You can also use it on any recent breakouts (don’t forget to spot-treat those pesky pimples!) to help them heal faster!

Do I need both serum and moisturizer?

Needless to say, serums are superior in every way to regular moisturizers.  The plant extracts and oils found in face serums will penetrate deep into the skin to improve its structure and make it healthier, without causing any breakouts!

But if your skin is already balanced with few blemishes or concerns, you can just use a gentle face oil or moisturizer without any plant extracts, and your skin should be totally fine.

Are serums safe?

The short answer is yes!  Serums are packed with beneficial ingredients, but there’s no reason to worry about them being unsafe – just make sure you use organic and natural beauty products that suit your skin type.

Most serums contain highly active ingredients instead of occlusive or emollient ones, so using them in the right way will leave you with glowing skin without any negative effects!

Serums are perfect if you have sensitive skin and want to deeply hydrate it while healing any acne scars, but they can also be used on oily or acne-prone skin since they are so gentle due to being oil-free.
